Meet the 2024 Dennis Interns

This year we welcomed four interns to our employee-owned company.

Internships serve as a crucial bridge between academic learning and practical application. In the food service industry, they play an essential role for both students and companies. As interns step into the building, they encounter real challenges faced by businesses. Whether it’s optimizing supply chains, onboarding new employees, or maintaining vendor relationships, they gain hands-on experience that textbooks can’t provide. Logistics roles demand a multifaceted skill set, and interns refine problem-solving abilities, enhance communication skills, and learn to manage time effectively. Attention to detail becomes second nature, and teamwork becomes more than a buzzword—it’s a daily practice. Imagine interning at Dennis Food Service—the hustle of warehouse operations, the intricacies of human relations, and the creative side of the marketing department. Seasoned professionals become mentors, sharing insights and career advice. This exposure shapes interns’ understanding of their future paths. In summary, internships aren’t mere coffee runs; they’re transformative experiences that prepare students for thriving careers in the future. 🌟

“I’m from Swanville, Maine and I just graduated from the University of Maine with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a minor in Management. I’ve always had an interest in Psychology and behavior, so I knew I wanted to work with people. I decided on my Management minor because I love business organization and applying psychological principles to improve organizational efficiency and employee well-being. I chose to intern in Human Resources at Dennis Food Service because I wanted to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic and supportive HR environment. I am thoroughly enjoying my internship, as it has provided me with valuable insights into the practical applications of my studies and has allowed me to develop essential skills for my future. After completing my internship, I plan to use the experience and knowledge I have gained to pursue a full-time HR role where I can continue to make meaningful contributions to an organization!”

“I’m from Stoneham, Maine, and I am enrolled at Maine Maritime Academy studying in the International Business and Logistics program and plan to get my masters in Maritime Management. I chose this field because I wanted to better understand how the world around me works. I chose Dennis for my internship because I knew they would help align me with my career goals, after college I will pursue a career in the logistics field, and working at Dennis gives me insight as to how that might look for me in the future. The courses offered at my school directly translate to the real-world skills I have learned at Dennis. After I graduate, I hope to pursue a career in logistics at a major port, effectively using the skills and knowledge I have learned at Dennis. After this summer I will have two more years of college before I further pursue a career in logistics”

“I am from Brewer, Maine and I go to the University of Southern Maine, where I major in Business Management. I chose this major because I have dreams of owning my own business or working high up in a good company. I chose Dennis for my internship because I think it is a great company with people who are eager for growth and success. My plans for after my internship are to start my sophomore year on a great note and further my academics having gained a ton of knowledge from Dennis this summer. Overall, I’d say my experience at Dennis has been amazing and the people and relationships that I have built are something that I will always have as I continue my journey throughout life.

“I am from Sanford, Maine, and I am currently attending Maine Maritime Academy. I chose to major in International Business Logistics because it was highly recommended to me in High School. I’m back at Dennis for another internship this summer after having such a positive experience last year. I found last year this internship to be incredibly valuable in applying the knowledge and skills I gained to my coursework at MMA. I am thoroughly enjoying my internship again this summer, particularly the opportunity to meet and interact with various drivers.  While my class choices are determined by my program, the hands-on experience has been a highlight. Looking ahead, I’m open to exploring different paths after the internship, but I haven’t settled on any specific plans yet”

Brady, Catrina, Dana, and Landon will soon finish their internships with us. We look forward to what the future holds for them and who knows, maybe we’ll see them back here someday.
